Being Love

If you would have been in downtown Iowa City
yesterday afternoon,
you would have seen Husband and I wandering aimlessly around
trying to find something free to do for date night.

Literally out of nowhere, an Ethiopian woman called out
English?! Location??
And a cell phone was shoved in my face.

After several translations and passing of the phone back and forth
we realized this sweet lady had accidently bought a ticket from Minneapolis to Iowa City
instead of Sioux City where her friends were waiting to pick her up.
{over five hours away}

What happened next literally broke my heart.
Big tears started falling and her hands were shaking as she grabbed my arm
and held on for all she was worth.
I can only imagine how scared I would be alone in a big city
the wrong city and unable to speak the language well.

The rest of the night was kind surreal.
I mean, how often do we get a chance to help a vulnerable person?!
We walked her down to the bus station, helped her get a ticket to the right city.
Bought her dinner and then sat together quietly for three hours until the proper bus arrived.
She had this frightened look in her eyes, like a little rabbit alone in a big field.
As we put her safely on the bus, after informing the driver of the situation,
this lady gave Hubs and me the biggest hugs ever
and she whispered brokenly
'thank yoou'

In Hubs words.  It was the best date night ever.

In other random weekend news.
Hubs and I splurged a whole two dollars and fifty cents for breakfast
AND we had an awesome lunch of real chinese food with bro.
It was really such an amazing day.

Happy Monday, Lovelies!
