As I hurried out the door towards my bus, I was hit with two thoughts.
One --If I could just sit down on this strip of grass and boohoo my eyes out, I would probably feel better and Two -- How often throughout the day do I treat people just like that?
I felt like God used that sharp response from my boss to remind me of some very important truths.
-- Treat others the way I want to be treated.
-- Always assume that everyone is doing the best they can.
-- Never use words or body language that is degrading or belittling.
These are reminders that I should tattoo to my arm, permanent marker on my dashboard and set as hourly pop-ups on my computer screen. Because it's truly easier said than done, no?! (ei. please refrain from asking Husband how I greeted him after work last night. Woe is me.)
So here's to another day of asking God to guard the works I speak and the actions I display to others. Because who knows. . . my marriage and friendships might just depend on it.
This awesome bauble-headed-photo is for this rad contest.
Go read about it and let me know if you want to be on my team, yo!
Happy Tuesday, lovelies

I am sorry that you were put through this poor behavour on behalf of your boss. I am delighted you felt like shedding a tear and becoming aware of the bitterness and that you did not pass it on to the next poor innocent soul.
ReplyDeleteThe tongue can hurt so deep.
This is a nice reminded. I try and say the prayer to St. Francis daily "Lord make me an instrument of your peace, where there is hatred let me sow love...etc.
If you you tube Sinead O"Connor - she sings it beautifully.
Thanks for reminding us

so true! i love the one about assuming everyone is doing the best they can. when I've had bad days and not responded to things the way I should or miss certain commitments it reminds me to not get mad or frustrated with others because they easily could just be having a bad day then too. thanks for the reminder!
ReplyDeleteOh man...days like that are hard (where you fight back tears). That is pretty awesome that it reminded you how we should all be treating each other though! I hope today is a happy one!
ReplyDeleteAww girl, great job keeping your head up! So glad you thought of what God was trying to teach you in that moment.
ReplyDeletegreat picture, and an even better reminder!
ReplyDeletewow-good for you for stepping back and refleccting on it...I had the same today at work...I didn't cope so well and went to lunch with big puffy eyes.
ReplyDeleteI love these types of posts because it serves as a simple reminder that often it's the little things that mean so much. That common respect + patience + understanding that your boss failed to summon in your conversation is a larger sign of something else missing from his/her leadership toolkit. I'm so sorry that you had to be on the receiving end of it...but thank you for sharing what is a lovely reminder!

PS - FUN photo!!
Great post. Sooo true. I find myself in similar situations where I am asking myself the same questions. Sorry you were hurt!
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking about that earlier today. How I want to strive to recognize everyone's goodness and respond to that goodness, even if it seems to be covered up or blocked by a prickly exterior. And, to cut other people some slack and try not to take it personally when they are brash or cutting with their words. And to respond with my highest sense of right, regardless of how the other person is treating me.
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute photo!
Yay for you for stopping and thinking about how you could learn and grow instead of just having a pity party, although I am sure a pity party sounded pretty good ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat picture!
:( So sorry Nicole. That totally sucks, especially when you have to try to keep it together. But good for you for having an open heart to what the Lord wanted to teach you! Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteAww sorry your boss reacted in such an unpleasant way to you. I know the exact feeling you are talking about. Such important words that you've reminded us of, I need to tattoo them on my arm too :)
