Wish

Sometimes I wish we were all still seven kids at home
that we spent our days playing at the creek building stick houses
and our biggest worries were arguing over who was going to wash the supper dishes.

Sometimes I wish none of us were graduated
that we all went to sleep under the same black roof
and that we could spend our afternoons riding our bikes with no hands down the gravel road.

Sometimes I feel like Anne Shirley
when she said
Why do people have to grow up and marry, change?!

Sometimes I wish we could
freeze time and just stay seven crazy Chmelar kids forever.

But then we would never have the chance for new memories
new adventures
and deeper relationships than ever before.

Never have the chance for the love to multiply
to grow
and be shared in place around the world.

So to my six amazing siblings
who I will forever adore with all my heart.

  6. This post got me today. My baby sister is graduating from high school in 2 weeks, too. It's been wonderful to watch her grow into the woman she's becoming, but yes, it's hard not to have nostalgic feelings for the "good ol' days" sometimes. :-)

  9. I can totally identify with this. You look like you have such a sweet, fun-loving family! I have 3 other siblings (including a twin brother) and now we're all married. In the last 2 years we've only been in the same state (or country) twice, and so I cherish our time together! Thank you for sharing this!
