It Takes A Village

You know how they say is takes a village to raise a child?!
Would you believe it also takes a village to make grow a marriage??

I am so nostalgic this weekend as we are about to celebrate our first year of marriage on Monday, June 4.  As I think back to all the emotions I was feeling this very time last year, I am overwhelmed.

Overwhelmed with the pure joy marriage has been.
Overwhelmed with the ways marriage has challenged and changed me.
Overwhelmed with incredible gift of spending every day of my life with my best friend.
And most of all
Overwhelmed with the outpouring of love and support that so many people have shown us this past year.

So to kick off a weekend of marriage celebration here on our little blog, I present my very own list of thank yous.  An Oscar award's speech of sorts.  The acknowledgments page to the closing of our first chapter of marriage.  So without any further ado. . .
{this post is highly personal and a bit long so feel free to close this window and move on to other exciting business of life}

To our dear friends who stood at the altar with us just one year ago.  Tiffany C, Bethany B, Becca B, Christy D, Jessica B, Grace C, Beth C, Aubrey C, Brian N, David B, Phil V, Clint F, Andrew D, and Ben DP.  You guys were there from the beginning have have shaped our lives in more ways than you will ever know.

To my awesome pseudo little bro, Chris Calvi.  You rocked it as the DJ for our reception and I have you to thank for burning songs like 'Fireworks' in my brain as an instant memory recall for all that wedding excitement and emotions.  I will never forget you and our adventures in China.  Love you, bro.

To my mentors, Christy D and Lisa D.  You have no idea how all those times I've called you in tears, that you have literally touched my heart with your wisdom, prayers and encouraging words.  Our marriage wouldn't be the same without you.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

To Adam's mentors, Andrew D, Dave N and Brian N.  I am so grateful that there are awesome dudes like you to pour into Husband's life.  Thank you for always pointing us back to each other and for being such godly examples of marriage and faith.  Adam loves you guys and I do too.

To my amazing girlfriends who are in our 'Power of a Praying Wife' group, Maria F, Janene S and Krystal M.  Thanks for the hot tea, yummy beignets and times of prayer together.  Prayer is changing our marriages and our hearts and I'm so grateful for you.

To our families.  Mom and Dad, Tiffany, Christopher, Timothy, Grace, Beth and Aubrey, Poppa and Mama, Brian, Jessica and tiny baby J.  You guys have been such an incredible force of love for us.  Thanks for sending us to a marriage conference, for helping us on our plethora of house projects, and for supporting us as a new family unit.  Thank you for never trying to come between us and for always standing up for our marriage.  We are so glad we get to be family forever.

To the small town movie theaters, Falbo Brothers Pizza, downtown Iowa City, and Redbox kiosks everywhere.  Thank you for giving us awesome date nights over the last year.  We are quite bonded to you and the memories you've given us.

To every other person, who I sadly failed to mention.  If you have been a part of our lives this past year in any small or great way, we are eternally thankful for you.  Thank you for loving us and doing life together.

To God who is the giver of all things good.  You have blessed me in more ways than I could ever hope to deserve and I pray that I can show you my gratitude by loving Husband in a way that honors and glorifies You.

And most of all.  To my amazing, sexy, lovable, patient Husband.
Adam, you have bewitched me, body and soul.
You have taught me over the last year what unconditional love really looks like.
You have still pursued me when my heart was less than lovely and I may or may not have given you a cold shoulder.

Thank you for choosing me out of all the millions of girls in the world.
Thank you for making the quoting the most beautiful vows to me and for living them out everyday.
Thank you for working through one conflict after another and for always fighting for US.
Thank you for still making me cry because my heart is so full of love for you.

I can't wait to live out the rest of our lives together.
I love you.
