We Celebrated Your Birthday Like This

Dear America.

We celebrated your 226th birthday today with homemade ice cream, a blazing hot parade in the sun and lots of sparklers and kisses.  It really was quite epic in the only way a 100+ degree day could be.

It's really kind of surreal when I think of how you have changed so many people's lives.  People like my great Grandpa Chmelar who traveled on that big boat from Czechoslovakia with his family so many years ago.  I wonder how happy he felt when he saw you for the first time?!  Did he understand in his boyish mind the people that would come after him and grow up in this great country?!  Did he know the ways we could change the world?!

Thank you for being a beacon of light to us all . . . no matter what our skin color may be or how long we have been here.

And most of all, no matter what the future may hold, I pray that We the People continue to show the Love and Hope that this great nation was founded upon so many years ago.

Happy birthday you Land of the Free, you.
