He Gets It
Last night as I was getting all comfy in bed, Husband came up next to me and started talking to Baby. The conversation went something like this. . .
Hey Buddy, you've got to stop hurting your mom . . .
No, don't backtalk me.
Oh, he's laughing
. . .
I love you son.
But of course if you are a girl, that's fine too.
I want you to love the Lord
I want you to love your Mom
I want you to love your wife -- of course not right now because you are too young.
But when you do have a crush, you've gotta tell me man, 'cuz I can't wait to know. I'm just so curious to know.
And then I started crying. Maybe it's all these dumb hormones. Or maybe it's just the achingly wonderful feeling of knowing you married the right person. Knowing that even though he doesn't know much about birth plans or sleep training or the proper way to swaddle a newborn, he understands what really will matter to the Littles.
It will only really matter how we love them.
And how we teach them to love God with their whole heart, mind and soul.
I think I'll probably have a good cry when I see him hold Baby for the first time. . .

But. What if he (or she - not sure if you know the sex yet) ends up loving someone of their own gender? Do you still want to know about that crush? Do you still want to know if he (absolutely, monogamously, with utter commitment) loves his husband instead of his wife? (or her wife instead of her husband)?
I'm seriously just wondering.
xo, the person that always leaves (hopefully kind) questions about non-heterosexual religious things on your blog.
You guys are going to be the best parents. You two have so much love and kindness in your hearts! This post is so great, I can only hope my someday hubs will talk to my baby belly like this!
ReplyDeletewow. i havent checked your blog for a little and when i came back i discover you are pregnant! congrats! best wishes to you both !!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, you nailed it. Such precious moments. I'm so happy for you.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Your man in suspenders is awesomely cute, you lucky girl.
Beautiful! You make me smile...and your husband is a gem. Girl or boy, that wee munchkin is certainly blessed to have parents like you. xo
ReplyDeleteYou are so lucky! Most husbands DO NOT GET IT the first time around! And even sometimes the 2nd and 3rd times around!
ReplyDeleteI don't cry very easily, but all of your mommy posts are making me tear up. I love you and your husband's passion for you child, for Jesus, and for each other. =) It actually reminds me of my husband and I. And while you are ahead of us on the journey of marraige (with being pregnant and all) it makes me so excited for when it is time for us to start having children. =) Praying for you both.
