A California Fourth

We are so incredibly blessed that we got to celebrate our great Nation's birthday on the beaches of California.
Summer Bucket List: Watch fireworks over the ocean. Check.

After a morning of lazing around the house, Adam and his dad loaded bikes into the back of the truck and away we went to the beach.  As I was pedaling along the bike path, I saw all my fellow Americans celebrating in their own way.  I saw games of volleyball with the players all decked in their red, white and blue.  I saw an African-American woman sitting on a stone wall, American flag waving in her hand.  I saw an Asian girl, baby belly making her pink dress billow.  I saw barbecues under tents, row after row of colored umbrellas, and little kids running into the crashing waves.

Sometimes I am saddened at how far our Nation has drifted from that great vision is was founded on 237 years ago.  I want to fix it all with sweeping changes that will put us back to that long ago country; One Nation Under God.  But the truth is this.  It isn't the government's job to make our communities, our cities, our nation a better place.  It's not the lack of laws or initiatives.  It's not one man's job to fix it all.

It's my job.
My job to reach out to my neighbors.
My job to love the hurting.
My job to serve those in need.
My job to embrace and love and accept.

If each of us would take responsibility for our own small corner of America, maybe then we would see the change we long for.  Maybe then people's lives would be bettered.  Maybe then we can remain the land of the free, the home of the brave.

^^ we enjoyed our fireworks on this gorgeous deck overlooking the ocean. God is so awesome to have created such beautiful places for us to enjoy life.  ^^

  8. What a great picture!! So true about the 4th of July--we've strayed so far from what the country was founded in. We've changed for better in some ways and worse in others.
