For the Beach

It's 4:20 in the morning and I'm sitting here waiting for the last load of laundry to dry so I can finish sorting outfits for our California trip in a few hours.

Did I mention that we are spending the next two weeks in California?!  Consider it mentioned.

I also might as well mention that some things never change.  Like the fact that I will probably always be that girl that packs in the wee hours on the night before the trip.  In the past, I would get really self-conscience about this part of me.  Something about the 'lazy' and 'procrastinator' labels that get thrown around.  And while the former may be a bit true, there is part of me that has come to enjoy these late nights of packing.  The piles of clean clothes that making sorting and packing that much easier.  The quiet all through the house.  The anticipation of adventures to be had.

I did pull out a few items yesterday in honor of Emmett's first trip to the beach this week.   You know, all the good stuff you can't live without when it comes to livin' it up on the beaches of southern California.

1// My reading list right now.  Is this reading books on vacation some kind of fantasy notion now that I'm a mom?!  Quite possibly, but a girl can dream, right?!  2// Cut-offs and comfy shirts; the next two weeks' outfit of choice when being in the water isn't an option. 3// Sunnies, of course.  4// For combating the smell baby pukies.  5// This retro suit that I scored at, are you ready for this?! Wal-Mart.  Apparently miracles still happen.  6// My passport for a possible quick trip to Mexico... more on that later.  7// And of course my trusty Iphone for all my memory-capturing needs

1//  Little hats for sun shade and the overall awesome factor.  2// Lots of outfit changes for Emmett's aforementioned spitting problem.  3// For the Little's entertainment and soothing purposes.  In case the sand and water aren't cutting it.  4// Favorite swaddles.  5// For beach lounging.  6// These little dude swim trunks.  His rolls look pretty awesome in them.

I can't wait to stick E's chubby little toes in the sand and watch the look on his face when he feels that cold ocean water for the first time.  This is the good stuff that memories are made of.

  7. Ummmm, totally with you re. middle-of-the-night packing. It was not until I was in my late 20's that it even occurred to me that one could pack a few days ahead. Now, imagine my paradigm shift when it is revealed that some people pack WEEKS ahead of a trip. I just can not even.
Thanks for the packing inspiration. I'm off on an epic trip in a few weeks with my kiddo!
