It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

If you've been reading this blog for at least a year, you know that one of my most favorite places in the whole world is the Log Village at the Midwest Old Thresher's Reunion every Labor Day weekend.  It's the highlight my year.  Every year.  Besides Christmas and my birthday of course.
The five days of reenacting life in the year 1856 flies by so fast and by the middle of September, I'm already dreaming of next year's rock candy and pickles from the general store, log splitting contests, suppers from a dutch oven over the fire, folk songs around the porch at night and did I mention rock candy and pickles?!  There is something so simple and raw about that life and being able to step back in time is a true gift.

And I do have to say that watching my guy in his front flap pants and suspenders a nice treat for these eyes.  Especially when he is quartering huge logs in the wood lot.  Be still my heart.
The little dude in his baby dress is pretty adorable himself!  Hashtag1850sbabyboyproblems

Things will be a little quiet around this blog this weekend, as laptops don't translate very well to T-Minus-157-Years.  You may want to keep your eyes on a lovely little thing known as Instagram though.  Baskets are perfect hiding places for inventions of the future and I'll probably being overgramming my favorite foods all weekend.
^^ Emmett got to break in his brand new 1850's dress that his Mimi made for him at the volunteer's picnic last Sunday.  That paci just really ties the whole outfit together, don't you think?! ^^
Do you have any big plans for this lovely holiday weekend?!  If not, you should get your bum in the bar and come watch us in action.  I might even buy you a big pickle as a prize for showing up!!

Happy long weekend, friends!

  6. Ohmywow! This looks like so much fun. Living in Indianapolis for a couple of years when I was young was a great, we has a membership to this place called Conner Prairie and they reenacted the Indians and the Pioneers and you could walk through it and see all these cool things. Me and my siblings played Indians and Pioneers so so much and so this would be way fun to go to. How neat!

Thanks so much for your sweet comment on my blog today :)
