A Thrifting Guide For Children's Clothes

Thrift shopping for your little people is such a great treasure hunt for saving your family money! It's amazing how quickly babies grow from one size to the next in the first 12 months of life and so the idea of finding quality, beautiful clothes for a fraction of the cost is always appealing to me.

I recently scored a stack of clothes for Gideon and only paid about $15 for the whole lot.  This makes me so grateful because I know at the rate he is growing, he will be onto the next size in just a few weeks!  I thought it would be fun to share a few tips that I use when I'm out trolling the racks for my boys.

Happy thrifting!!

1 //  Watch for unique brands
I have found so many fun brands in thrift stores that I probably would never have found if I were just clothes shopping on my own.  Some of my favorite finds have been an adorable knit lion hat from Blabla Kids, that adorable green striped tee from Joules USA and this soldier tee shirt from a New Zealand based company, Pumpkin Patch Kids.  You can find so many great treasures when you search thrifted clothing racks and have the chance to dress your kids in some super cute brands that you may not be able to afford otherwise!
2 // Consider clothing make-overs
I am not a huge fan of generic animal prints or appliques on baby and toddler clothes but when I found these adorable little woolen overalls, I realized that a simple line of stitching was all that held this teddy bear pocket on.  I bought these for just a few dollars and transformed them in 5 minute into a classic pair of overalls for Gideon to wear.  Keep an open mind to ways that you may be able to work over an item of clothing.
^^ so much more in love with this simple, woolen look! ^^

3 // Search both gender racks
Not long after Gideon was born, we were in a thrift store stocking up on little boys' winter wear.  I happened to be walking past the girls' rack and saw this adorable knitted cream one piece.  It was so basic and could honestly go for either gender and I only paid a couple dollars.  Don't rule out the opposite gender's clothing racks because you never know what gender neutral item may be hiding there!
^^ he's obviously not nearly as impressed with this find as i was. haha! ^^
